UNDER-19 Final Preview | Waterford
Galway United face Waterford FC in the Final of the SSE Airtricity under-19 League at Eamonn Deacy Park on Bank Holiday Monday. Kick-off: 6.00pm.
Admission is €5. Children under-12 and Galway United season ticket holders will be granted free admission to the game.
Nigel Keady’s side finished 4th in the Southern Elite Division, which meant they had to face first-placed Bohemians from the Northern Elite Division in the Quarter-Final stage.
United came from behind twice in Blanchardstown to level through goals from Joshua Keane-Quinlivan and Wilson Waweru, before Francely Lomboto scored a dramatic winner for the Tribesmen in extra-time.
Another trip to the capital beckoned for United in the semi-final when they faced Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.
A resolute performance from Nigel Keady’s side saw them leave Tallaght with an impressive 2-0 win, with Keane-Quinlivan and Lomboto amongst the goals once again.
Monday’s opponents Waterford knocked out fellow Northern Elite Division teams Dundalk and Drogheda United to book their place in the final.
Waterford substitute Success Edogun scored two late goals against Dundalk to secure a 3-2 win in the quarter-final.
The Blues then came out on top in a 9 goal thriller at the RSC, beating Drogheda United 5-4 to set up Monday’s decider at Eamonn Deacy Park.
In team news, Galway United manager Nigel Keady has reported a fully fit squad.
Keady told www.galwayunitedfc.ie: “We’ve been building up to the game all week, everything is tailored towards it. We’re making sure the guys are ready to go and start at 6.00pm.
“Confidence is high throughout the team. The lads are really looking forward to playing in front of a big crowd and having a big home support behind them.
“From the club’s point of view, it’s massive. Finals don’t come along too often, our supporters should enjoy their club being in a final, whatever level that may be. I expect a big crowd.”
