Match Report: Galway United 0-0 Longford Town

Galway United were held to a 0-0 draw in their penultimate league game of the season against Longford Town at Eamonn Deacy Park.

It was a game that lacked any real cutting edge and fell under the category of end-of-season fare.

Stephen Folan tried to steer United in front when he rose to head Ryan Connolly’s corner-kick towards goal but the ball cleared Paul Skinner’s upright.

David O’Sullivan spun in the box after Kevin O’Connor picked him out, Longford’s striker got a weak shot away that was straight at the returning Conor Winn.

United then had two chances in quick succession, Ryan Connolly saw his goalbound shot blocked, he then collected the loose ball before rolling it to Kevin Devaney, who forced Skinner into a save.

Some inventive footwork from Conor Melody opened up a gap for Gary Shanahan on the right, Melody slipped the ball to the Limerick native but he blasted over.

United received a massive let off in the second half when a slack back pass from Ryan Connolly was pounced on By David O’Sullivan, but luckily for the homeside, O’Sullivan scuffed his low shot into the side netting.
